Samsung PRISM: New Industry-Academia Program in India to Collaborate with Engineering Students on AI, IoT, 5G Launched

Each undertaking can be taken up by a group of scholars and a professor, with a mentor from Samsung R&D Institute Bangalore coaching and guiding them

Samsung, India’s largest and most trusted shopper electronics and smartphone model, has launched a novel industry-academia program – Samsung PRISM (Preparing and Inspiring Student Minds) – to stimulate the Indian innovation ecosystem, and construct capabilities amongst college students that meet {industry} wants.

The program, which can be run by Samsung R&D Institute Bangalore (SRI-B), Samsung’s largest R&D facility exterior of Korea, aimed to contain engineering faculties which might be within the prime positions of the Government of India’s National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) rankings. SRI-B has up to now signed MoUs with 10 engineering faculties. It will add extra faculties over the subsequent few months.

Once this system rolls out, SRI-B will collaborate with college students and college at these engineering faculties, giving them analysis in addition to growth initiatives to be executed over 4 to 6 months. Students will get to work on initiatives in leading edge know-how areas equivalent to Artificial Intelligence (together with imaginative and prescient tech), Machine Learning, Internet of Things & Connected Devices and 5G networks, to resolve actual world issues.

Each undertaking can be taken up by a group of three college students and one professor, with a mentor from SRI-B who will information and practice them, and conduct common critiques. Each engineering faculty can have a number of groups, and college students can be chosen on the premise of a check performed by SRI-B.

Students may even be inspired to publish papers and file patents collectively with SRI-B.

Dipesh Shah, Managing Director, Samsung R&D Institute Bangalore, stated: “Samsung PRISM program is a testimony to our mission of transforming people’s lives with meaningful innovations. This program will draw from the strength of our academia and engineering students’ community, which undoubtedly is the best in the world. Giving them an opportunity to work with Samsung, and making them industry-ready will be a step in the right direction towards Atmanirbhar Bharat.”

“As we move forward, we want to blend the program with the academic calendars of engineering colleges across the country, and also encourage students and faculty to publish quality papers and file patents,” Mr Shah added.

SRI-B had began a pilot program for Samsung PRISM final yr, during which 150 groups labored on distinctive R&D initiatives. The groups labored on ‘Make for India’ initiatives equivalent to handwriting recognition for Indian languages and AI-based Indian language translation. Some groups labored on analysis initiatives equivalent to clever navigation through in-home object recognition and enhancing video high quality in low mild situations.

During the lockdown interval, this system has been performed on-line. Teams labored on their initiatives from dwelling, and have been skilled by mentors over Video Calls and Webinars. Students can go surfing to to replace their initiatives particulars and for periodic critiques.

All group members on undertaking completion can be given certificates by SRI-B. So far, 46 groups have been acknowledged for his or her distinctive work and have been rewarded too. SRI-B has signed MoUs with Vellore Institute of Technology, SRM Institute of Science and Technology, Manipal Academy of Higher Education, M.S Ramaiah Institute of Technology, RV College of Engineering, BMS College of Engineering, Siddaganga Institute of Technology, and others.

SRI-B focuses on applied sciences round Communication Protocols, Multimedia (together with Camera Solutions), Intelligence, Payment, Web Services, Memory, Network and IoT. The R&D centre’s key focus is to create international product differentiation and options for the Indian market by figuring out distinctive insights and ship worth to customers. SRI-B has experience in synthetic intelligence, machine studying, pure language processing, Internet of Things (IoT), augmented actuality and networks together with 5G. It has additionally filed over 2,900 patents in India up to now.

Over the years, SRI-B has engaged with a number of universities and academic institutes equivalent to Indian Institute of Science Bangalore (IISc), International Institute of Information Technology Bangalore (IIIT-B) IIT- Kharagpur and IIT-Kanpur for analysis collaborations on areas equivalent to synthetic intelligence and its purposes to multimedia and imaginative and prescient tech, IoT, sensors and networks.
