SRM University – AP : Prof Ajay Okay Sood, FRS delivered the University Distinguished Lecture Series 01

New Delhi: The first University Distinguished Lecture Series on “Doing Science Without Borders” commenced with an inaugural welcome speech by Prof V S Rao, Vice-Chancellor, and Prof D Narayana Rao, Pro-Vice-Chancellor, SRM University-AP, Andhra Pradesh. Prof V S Rao expressed their gratitude to Prof Ajay Okay Sood for his gracious presence. In addition, Prof Narayana Rao emphasised that beneath the University Distinguished Lecture collection the talks shall be delivered by eminent scientists from India and overseas that will be of immense profit for college kids and the school and researchers. He additional talked about, “Doctors, researchers, engineers and scientists from several fields of knowledge around the world worked together to confront corona outbreak with an unprecedented spirit of collaboration. Also, NEP advocates and emphasizes that the societal need of the 21st century require broad-based multidisciplinary research and education”.

Prof Ajay Okay Sood, Fellow of the Royal Society, FRS and Honorary Professor, Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru, narrated three tales of his current experiments and superior analysis work, specifically “Emergent flocking behaviour seen in nature: Laboratory experiments”, “Crystallization of Glass: Machine Learning in condensed matter Physics”, and “Bacterial Nano Heat Engine: Getting bacteria to work”. He begins by stating that again in 1944, a profound physicist Schrodinger launched the idea of “aperiodic crystal” which led to the understanding of genetic molecules, enunciating the significance of inter-disciplinary functions of scientific works. In his first narrative, he speaks of the flocking motion amongst birds, micro organism, locusts, and human beings as effectively. He introduced the identical experiment in his laboratory the place he used 2 particles, energized them, and recognized their flocking sample. He noticed that the speed of motion between the 2 particles differ, which may be utilized to particle sorting. This experiment has functions in biology, the place micro organism and/or cells may be sorted and separated and likewise in autonomous vehicles.

While explaining his second experiment, Prof A Okay Sood talked about that he studied the devitrification or the tendency of glass particles to crystallize over time to achieve a state of stability from its metastable state. He used supervised Machine Learning to foretell the place crystallization will happen in glass. His workforce educated the system to establish the laborious and smooth particles of the glass. His experiments concluded that Machine Learning (ML) helps in figuring out the smooth particles, which possess the tendency to maneuver and crystallize over an extended time frame. Further, Prof A Okay Sood and his workforce of collaborators developed bacterial nano warmth engines by mimicking the organic motors in our physique which produces vitality for residing beings to perform. Using bacterial exercise, they made warmth engines and are advancing their analysis work to acknowledge the sensible functions of the nano warmth engines in vehicles, batteries. The micro organism warmth engines is a extremely promising know-how of the long run

Prof A Okay Sood narrated his laboratory tales to explicate the splendor of multidisciplinary analysis which can be utilized to unravel primary issues. He stated, “The key to successful scientific research is to collaborate with experts beyond their own domain. Communication and appreciation of views of an open mind enable the scientists to understand the various phenomena. Students and researchers should be curious which will lead to research having various interdisciplinary applications that will make an impact across various domains.”

About thousand individuals from IISc,IITs, NITs,IIITs, IISERs, a number of Indian Universities together with University of Hyderabad, Delhi University, NEHU, Pondicherry University, Punjab University; a number of overseas Universities together with KAUST, Saudi Arabia, Nagoya University, Japan, Zhejiang Ocean University, China, Teesside University, UK, a number of Engineering Colleges; National Laboratories of DST, DBT, CSIR, ISRO, DRDO, ICMR, BARC, JNCASR, ARIES, ARCI; industries together with ARBL, Tata Steel have attended the distinguished lecture given by Prof Ajay Sood.
